Winifred L. Genzman

Winifred Lucille Genzman, 95, formerly of Glenn Dr., Fremont, OH passed away at Rutherford House on December 6, 2015. She was born on November 24, 1920 in Oak Harbor the daughter of Carl and Wanda (Piehl) Leow. She was a 1938 graduate of Oak Harbor High School.

Winnie married Willard Genzman on August 23, 1940 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oak Harbor, OH and he preceded her in death on November 11, 1998. She worked at Birchard Public Library for 20 years and St. John’s Library for 26 years.

She was a very active member at St. John’s Lutheran Church where she was a Sunday and Vacation Bible School Teacher, served funeral lunches, member of the Daughters of St. John’s Altar Guild and Abigail Circle. She was also very active in the craft sale and sent cards to shut in’s for many years. Winnie volunteered at the Lutheran Memorial Camp in Fulton, OH and the Share and Care Center. She enjoyed playing cards with the Siler Street Couples Club and at the Senior Center.

Winnie is survived by her daughters, Janet (Kenneth) Rolf, Saginaw, MI and Patricia (William) Shaffer, Elmore, OH; brother, Nolan Leow, Napoleon, OH; sister, Faye Groscost, Sandusky, OH; grandchildren, Ann Turner Herring, Franklin, TN, Philip Turner, Riverside, CA, Kelly Nissen, Elmore, OH Andrew Shaffer, Columbus, OH and Matthew Rolf, Lake Orion, MI and eleven great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Willard Genzman; daughters, Vickie Kay Genzman and Kathleen Anderson and brother, Kenneth Leow.

Visitation: Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home & Crematory, 425 E. State St., Fremont, OH.

Service: Thursday, December 10, 2015; 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 212 N. Clover St., Fremont, with an hour of visitation prior to the service at the church.

Burial: Greenlawn Memory Gardens, Clyde.

Memorials: St. John’s Bell Choir or children’s activities, Hospice of ProMedica Memorial Hospital or Donor’s Choice.
