William G. Mayer, Jr, 84, of Fremont, OH passed away on January 30, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on August 8, 1931 in Toledo, OH to William and Magdalena (Durliat) Mayer, Sr. He was a 1950 graduate of Tiffin Calvert High School.
Bill served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict from 1951-1955. He was awarded the National Defense Service Ribbon and the Navy Occupation Service Medal (European). He married Faye A. Longanbach on May 17, 1958 at St. Ann Catholic Church in Fremont and she survives.
Bill was a driver salesman for 7up Bottling in Toledo from 1957-74. He was also a driver salesman for Nickel’s Bakery from 1975-1996 when he retired. He was a member of the V.F.W., American Legion, Eagles and the Moose. He was also an avid bowler.
Bill is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Faye Mayer, Fremont; children, Diana (Larry) Myers, Fremont, Kenneth Mayer, Dayton, OH, Patricia (Robert) Kerr, Fremont and Barbara “Bunnie” (James) Vischer, Genoa, OH; sister, Helen Fox, Fremont; grandchildren, Kyle (Ashley) Myers, Cody Myers, Marianna and Benjamin Mayer, Nathan, Brook and Marcus Kerr, J.C. and Josh Vischer; great grandchildren, Kole and Kase Myers and Adalyn Kerr; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; half-brother, Gerald Mayer and half-sister, Gervase Ewald.
Visitation: Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home & Crematory, 425 E State St, Fremont, OH.
Service: Friday, February, 5, 2016; 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Gary Click officiating.
Burial: Oakwood Cemetery with military honor’s provided by the American Legion and V.F.W.
Memorials: Hospice of ProMedica Memorial Hospital or American Cancer Society.
