William G. Heabler, 90, of Fremont, OH passed away on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at Bethesda Care Center. He was born January 20, 1926 in Willard, OH, the son of William G. and Rose A. (Keegan) Heabler. He was a 1943 graduate of Townsend High School.
Bill served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was awarded the American Area Campaign Medal and WWII Victory Medal. He married Shirley M. Snyder on January 24, 1952 at St. Ann Catholic Church in Fremont and she preceded him in death on June 22, 2002.
Bill retired from Peter Eckrich & Sons after twenty-one years of service in the Shipping and Receiving Department. He worked for Fremont City Schools as a School Bus Driver for seven years and as a Custodian for three years, retiring in 1990. Bill was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church and enjoyed camping, bowling, golfing, playing cards and gardening. He was a member of the Burger King/Frisch’s “Liars Club.” He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Bill is survived by his children, Gloria Heabler, Geoffrey Heabler, Matthew Heabler, all of Fremont, OH and Sandra (Chad) Crosby, Bellevue, OH sister, Betty J. McGilton, Fremont, OH; grandchildren, Spencer Heabler, Savannah Heabler and Jacob Cupples; great grandchildren, Brayden and Maela Heabler, Mia and Maric Farster.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley M. Heabler; son, Mark L. Heabler and brother, Buddy W. Heabler.
Visitation: Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E State St., Fremont, OH.
Service: Tuesday, September 6, 2016; 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
Burial: St. Ann Cemetery with Military Honor’s provided by the V.F.W. and American Legion.
