Virginia R. Rich

Virginia R. Rich, 96, of Fremont, OH passed away Friday, February 16, 2024 surrounded by her family. She was born on November 9, 1927 in rural Norwalk to Clinton and Lucinda (Smith) Camp.  Virginia graduated from Margaretta High School in 1945.  She was known as the girl with the pretty smile. Virgina married Thomas A. Rich on May 28, 1949 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fremont, OH and he preceded her in death on August 18, 2013.

After High School Virgina worked at the Erie County Court House in the Recorders office.   She worked for Philco, then at Union Chain.  Virginia had also worked in the offices at Fremont Hotel, Fort Stevenson Motor Inn, Ramada Inn and retired in 1990 from Progress Design and Machine in Clyde, OH.   Virigina was also an election poll worker for many years.

Virgina was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fremont, OH where she was a member of the Confraternity of the Blessed Sacrament, where she was a past secretary, Mary Queen of Angels Prayer Group and volunteered for various other activities.   Above all else she loved her faith and family and enjoyed sharing her faith with others.  Virgina enjoyed golf, traveling with her husband, playing cards, Rummikub, Skipbo, Dominoes and jigsaw puzzles.

Virginia is survived by her children, Don (Cindy) Rich, Bellevue, OH, Sue (René) Lopez, Stuart, FL, Jerry (Julia) Rich, Florence, KY, Terry Wammes, Fremont, OH and Joe (Julie) Rich, South Lebanon, OH; sister, Carol Foos, Fremont, OH; twenty grandchildren; thirty great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Thomas Rich, siblings, Doris Bonnigson, Agnes LaPlante, Richard, Donald, David, and Duane Camp; daughter-in-law, Tami (Yellstrom) Rich and son-in-law, James Wammes and grandson, Brandon Rich.

The family would like to thank Virginia’s loving caretakers who helped the family care for her in her home:  Chonita, Marilyn, Trenade, Brenda, Tala, Marcia and Emma.  Thank you to Heartland Hospice for their wonderful support, especially her nurse Eric and Amanda W.

Visitation will take place on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E State St., Fremont, OH with a rosary to take place at 7:30 p.m.  

Mass of Christian burial will take place on Thursday, February 22, 2024: 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 709 Croghan St., Fremont, OH with Father Matthew Frisbee officiating.
