Thomas N. Turley (Tom), 80, went to be with his Savior and Lord on October 9, 2024. He was born June 29, 1944, in Fremont, OH, to Edgar Thomas Turley and Helen (Miller) Turley. In 1962, Tom graduated from Fremont Ross High School and then proudly served in the US NAVY (1963-1967) on the fleet tug, Takelma, and later on the USS Baya submarine.
In July of 1972, Tom married the love of his life, Alice Ann Yurista, at the First Presbyterian Church in Fremont, OH. They were blessed in 1973 with their son, John.
Tom attended Tri-State College (now Trine) in Angola, IN, where he graduated in 1975 with a BSEE in Electrical Engineering. In 1984 he was certified as a Professional Engineer and also became an independent consultant. He was employed by Burkett Industries in Fremont, OH, and then by US Gypsum Co. for 30 years as plant Electrical Engineer.
Family was of paramount importance to Tom. He was so proud of his son, John and his wife Christa and beautiful and loving granddaughter, Breanna.
Tom felt blessed to witness each stage of her growing up. He was also a man of faith and selflessness and demonstrated that through his generosity and kindness to all he met. Family and others could always depend on Tom for his wisdom and help. He was never afraid of hard work and was the ultimate caregiver for both of his parents. Tom always "took the high road"!
Tom also loved nature and enjoyed seeing beautiful scenery and historical sights on family trips. He fondly remembered his days as a youth fishing the Sandusky River and his favorite fishing holes! Then there was his PA & OH deer camp with his son plus numerous trips to Iowa, Missouri and North Dakota. Reading about WWII and shooting firearms and going to gun shows interested him, too.
In recent years he enjoyed reminiscing with the Ross Class '62 "lunch bunch" at Arby's!
Tom is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Alice Ann; son, John E, (Christa) and granddaughter, Breanna, of Northwood, OH; brother, Bill (Sandra)Turley of Winter Haven, FL;
sister-in-law, Linda Turley of Blairsville, PA; brothers, Russell (Ellen) Abbott of Fremont, OH; and Herman (Molly) Abbott of Fort Wayne, IN: cousin, George Waters of Winter haven and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Edgar Thomas Turley, Helen Miller Turley Abbott, stepfather Roy Abbott and brother, Russell Turley.
Graveside services honoring Tom will be at Riverview Cemetery, Port Clinton, OH, on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at 11:00 am with a luncheon to follow.
