Sue A. Wetzel

Sue A. Wetzel, 82, of Fremont, OH passed away on Thursday, April 13, 2023 at Valley View Health Campus surrounded by her loving family.  She was born on September 18, 1940 in Fremont, OH the daughter of Andrew and Fannie (Kessler) Sylvester.  She was a 1958 graduate of Fremont Ross High School and received her cosmetology license from the Warner College of Beauty Culture in Toledo, OH.  Sue married Jack V. Wetzel, Sr. on January 1, 1982 in Upper Sandusky and he preceded her in death on July 19, 2019.  She was a hairdresser at various salons and was the in-house hairdresser at Valley View Health Campus.  She was also the kitchen manager at the Fremont Moose for many years until they closed.  Prior to that she was employed at Howard Zinc.  Sue was an active member of the Women of the Moose, where she received all four degrees of achievement.  She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary.  She enjoyed helping people and would often make dinners for those in need.  She was very involved in helping her community and was often in charge of many events.  Sue also loved gambling and going to casinos with her friends.  Sue’s family was very important to her and she enjoyed spending time with them.

Sue is survived by her children, Laurie B. (Dick) Newlove, Bowling Green, OH, Kelly A. (Christopher) Calmes, Fremont, OH, Timothy L. (Kris) Batesole, Bellevue, OH; stepchildren, Diana K. (Mike) Ruland, The Villages, FL, Scott A. (Lee Ann) Wetzel, Norwalk, OH, Judy A. (Tony Conrad) Lowe, Clyde, OH; grandchildren, Lindsay (Mark) Rutkus, Missy (Jonathan) Jakubowski, Rebekah (Jason) Benschoter, Jenna Calmes, Jillian (Brandon Kinn) Calmes, Kenneth (Jessica), Nicholas (Cathleen) and Emily Batesole; step-grandchildren,  Tammy (Dave) Fellenstein, Angela (Greg) Brack, Jonathan Ruland, Adam (Kimberly) Wetzel, Andrew (Erika) Wetzel, Matthew (Dani Ragen) Lowe, Nathan (Kasey) Lowe, eleven great grandchildren, eight step great grandchildren and many special cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack V. Wetzel, Sr; infant daughter, Tina M. Batesole; step-son, Jack V. Wetzel, Jr.

Visitation:  Wednesday, April 19, 2023 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E State St., Fremont, OH

Service:  Thursday, April 20, 2023; 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial:  Four Mile House Cemetery, Fremont, OH.

Memorials can be made in Sue’s honor to Mooseheart or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Mary Wonderly and her staff, in addition to Valley View Health Campus nurses and staff for their excellent care and concern for our Mother.
