Steven L. Laeng

Steven L. Laeng, 66, of Fremont, OH passed away peacefully on Monday, July 3, 2023 surrounded by his family. Steve was born on October 30, 1956 to Raymond and Harriet (Smith) Laeng in Fremont, OH. He was a 1975 graduate of Fremont Ross High School and Vanguard Tech Center. Steve earned a degree in Nuclear Power from Terra Community College in 1977. Steve married Susan Rust on October 27, 1990 at Grace Lutheran Church in Fremont and she survives.

Steve was licensed by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and held a Senior Nuclear Reactor Operator License at Davis-Besse. He retired as a Simulator Training Instructor in 2017 after thirty-nine years of service. Steve was a member of the Brainard Masonic Lodge 336, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Zenobia Shriners Lodge and the Elks Lodge 169. Steve enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling, pickleball, golf, craft beer, and spending time with family and friends. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed cheering on the University of Michigan, Detroit Redwings, Detroit Tigers and the Cleveland Browns.

Steve is survived by his wife of thirty-two years Susan Laeng; daughter, Rachel (Kyle) DeMaagd; brother, Scott Laeng; sisters-in-law, Terri Laeng, Rita (Dale) Haton, Carolyn Orman and Linda McDonough; uncle, Bob Wolfe, and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Jim Laeng.

Visitation will take place on Sunday, July 9, 2023 from 2-6 p.m. at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St. Fremont, OH 43420.

Memorials can be made in his honor to Back to the Wild, Castalia, OH or The Shriners Hospital.
