Rufus Jerome Martin of Fremont OH passed away from this life on Tuesday February 11, 2025, at his home. Born on July 31, 1951, in Abbeville, Alabama to Charlie and Illey (Weems)Martin. Jerome grew up surrounded by love and a large family, running around the beautiful country fields and red roads in southern Alabama.
He graduated from Henry County Training School in Abbeville in 1970. Migrating from Alabama to Ohio he settled in Fremont in 1971. Shortly thereafter he would begin his career working and retiring from Whirlpool after over 35 years of service.
Making his home in Fremont, he was known for his love of his cars and keeping them spotless. The Grand Prix’s and Trans Am he owned were testaments to that. An avid sports fan, he regularly supported Michigan Wolverines and the Chicago Bulls. Two of his favorite teams.
The memories of him domineering the Roger Young Park courts with his older brother James, family, and friends. These will always bring feelings of comfort and make you smile.
Jerome is survived by his daughter, Rasha’ Yarbrough. Grand-son Asante’ Yarbrough, great-grandchildren; Cameron Leblanc Yarbrough and Zyla’ Winfrey Yarbrough. Siblings; Earnestine Martin, Janice Spann, Annie (Kenneth) Price, and James (Stevie) Martin. Best friend, Marlon Turner, and a host of nieces, nephews, and family to cherish his memory.
He is proceeded in death by his parents and siblings, Charlie Martin Jr., Marion Spann, Robert Martin, and Willie Martin.
The family will have a private viewing.
Visitation will take place on Friday, February 28, 2025, from 12-2 p.m. at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory., 425 E. State St. Fremont, Ohio 43420.
The family will be receiving all friends, community and loved ones at this time to be able to share condolences, memories, and share any thoughts celebrating is life.
