Roy J. Shaffer

Roy J. Shaffer, 85, of Fremont, OH passed away on May 21, 2013 at Bethesda Care Center in Fremont, OH. He was born on May 6, 1928 in Elmore, OH to the late Benjamin and Hilda (Schott) Shaffer.

Roy married Betty Taylor on September 25, 1953 and she preceded him in death on May 1, 2001. He then married Paula (Beachler) Drown on July 12, 2003 and she preceded him in death on July 18, 2012. He worked as a farmer then went to Whirlpool where he worked for many years until he retired in 1990. Roy owned B’s Christian Book Store with his wife Betty until she passed away.

Roy was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Fremont and was a life member at Portage Holiness Camp for many years. He enjoyed attending church activities and socializing with people.

Roy is survived by his sons, Paul (Chen) Shaffer, Tokyo, Japan and Tim (Laurie) Shaffer, Elmore; step-sons, Harve (April) Prater and Denzil Prater both of Clyde; siblings, Betty (Jon) Brown, Robert (Mary) Shaffer and William (Pat) Shaffer all of Elmore; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Betty Shaffer; second wife, Paula Shaffer; son, David Shaffer; sister, Mary Shaffer.

Visitation: Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home & Crematory, 425 E. State St., Fremont, OH.

Services: Saturday, May 25, 2013; 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Nazarene, 1925 N. Fifth St., Fremont with visitation from 9 to 10 a.m. at the church with Pastor Dan Vickey officiating.

Burial: Harris-Elmore Union Cemetery, Elmore, OH

Memorials: Church of the Nazarene or Hospice of Memorial Hospital.
