Ronald J. Showman, 81, of Fremont, OH passed away on May 21, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on December 29, 1934 in Napoleon, OH to Raymond and Edna (Geade) Showman. He graduated from Napoleon High School. Ron served in the US Army from 1952 – 1961 during the Korean Conflict.
Ron married Barbara Carr on July 30, 1955 at St. John’s Lutheran Church and she survives. He worked at Meade Mink Farm and then worked for Columbia Gas for 39 years as a pipefitter until he retired. Ron was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, American Legion and a life member of the V.F.W. He was very active in Scouting with Pack and Troop 302 for 38 years. He was a Webelos I and II Leader, Scoutmaster, Cubmaster, and also a Vigil in the Order of the Arrow. Ron earned his Wood Badge and the Silver Beaver. He loved to teach the kids how to tie knots.
Ron loved camping, bonfires, gardening, playing Santa and spending time with his family. He was always there to help in their lives and all their many activities.
Ron is survived by his wife of sixty years, Barbara Showman, Fremont; children, Ron (Bonnie) Showman, Jr., Clyde, Pam (Mark) Stott, Deshler, OH, Beth (Jeff) Stout, Fremont and Mike Showman, Sr, Lindsey, OH; siblings, Bob Showman, Napoleon, OH, Arlene (Lee) Miller, McClure, OH and Barb (Duane) Hasselman, Hamler, OH; twelve grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Burdette, Larry, Kenneth Showman, Carolyn Talmage and Marlene Downey.
Visitation: Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E State St., Fremont, OH.
Service: Wednesday, May 25, 2016; 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 212 N. Clover St., Fremont, OH with an hour of visitation prior to service at the church. Pastor Scott Mauch and Bishop Mark Conley will officiate.
Burial: Greenlawn Memory Gardens, Clyde, OH with military honor’s provided by the American Legion and VFW.
Memorials: St. John’s Lutheran Church, Hospice of ProMedica Memorial Hospital or Boy Scouts of America.
