Ronald L. Ayres, aged 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at home on Friday, February 7, 2025. Born on October 17, 1937, in Fremont, OH, he was the cherished son of William and Maribelle (Scherf) Ayres. Ronald was a proud graduate of Fremont Ross High School, class of 1955.

On July 23, 1956, Ronald married Marie Mesnard in Angola, IN, who survives him.

Ronald dedicated his professional life to several vocations. He was a Charter Captain on Day Away for twenty-eight years, sharing his passion for the waters with many. Additionally, he contributed to Armstrong Air in Bellevue, OH, and served in the maintenance department at the School of Hope for seventeen years until his retirement in 2000.

His community involvement was extensive. Ronald was a devoted member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council board. His leadership extended to his tenure as President of the Croghan School PTA. He was also a life member of the NRA, the Cushman Club and the Charter Boat Association, organizations that reflected his varied interests. Ronald found joy in charter boating, hunting, and fishing, activities that allowed him to bond with nature and his loved ones.

Ron is survived by his wife of sixty-eight years, Marie Ayres, Fremont, OH; children, Veronica Gloer, Oak Harbor, OH, Ginny (Don) Goedde, Avon Lake, OH, Todd (Barbara Hansen) Ayres, Fremont, OH, Troy (Julie) Ayres, Wartburg, TN; grandchildren, Zach (Jen) Gloer, Zane (Brittany) Gloer, Gina (Jerry) Preston, Jyl (Ben) Davis, Jodi (Chris) Mohan, Jenna (Drew) Condit, Ashley Ping, Canon (Mariah Pitzen) Ayres, Hunter (Taylor) Ayres, Brennan (Sharisa) Siebert, Cole (Anela Shanley) Ayres; great grandchildren, Emelia, Madilyn, Clara, Millie, Ada, Kennedi, Karsyn, Hayden, Zoey, Raygan, Rhylin, Ruger, Adley, Blakely, Jayden, Mason, Anthony, Austin, Ali, Ava, Cali, Aubrey, Ethan; siblings, Jim (Kathy) Ayres, Tom (Bev) Ayres, Rick (Marty) Ayers, Suzy (AJ) Ruiz and sister-in-law, Beth Ayres.

He is preceded in death by his parents; granddaughters, Amber Arruda, Brittney Ketter, brother, Fred Ayres; sister, Merry Jane (Jim) Polter, son-in-law, Steve Gloer and daughter-in-law, Debbie Ayres.

Visitation will be held on Monday, February 17, 2025 from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St. Fremont, OH 43420.

Services will take place on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, 10:00 am at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 902 E State St, Fremont, OH 43420 with Synod Authorized Minister Marueen Pump officiating. An hour of visitation will take place at the church from 9 to 10 am.

Burial will follow at Bakertown Cemetery.

Memorials can be made in Ron’s honor to St. Mark Lutheran Church, Heartland Hospice or the American Diabetes Association.
