Robert L. Smith, 85, of Fremont, OH passed away at his home on Wednesday, September 24, 2014. He was born on May 24, 1929 in Celina, OH the son of Harley Dean and LaVera “Pete” Marie (Market) Smith. He attended Rawson High School in Rawson, OH.
Bob married Doris Eileen Mains on July 9, 1949 in New Port, KY and she preceded him in death on April 22, 2005.
Bob worked as a Calander Operator at Chrysler Plastics in Sandusky, OH for twenty-six years and retired in 1991. He had previously worked at Nickel Plate Railroad as a Section-Labor Foreman for over thirteen years. Bob was a member of the Fremont Eagles and enjoyed bowling, fishing, knitting, playing the lottery and his dog, Buddy.
Bob is survived by his children, Michael L. (Pam) Smith, Rawson, OH, Charles R. (Lynn McDonald) Smith of Peoria, AZ, Jacqueline Jean Simon, Fremont, OH, Mark Allen Smith, Fremont, OH and Richard D. (Joyce) Smith, Findlay, OH; sister, Patricia Neff, Rawson, OH; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Doris Smith; brother, Dean Smith and grandson, Michael E. Smith.
Visitation: Saturday, September 27, 2014 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St., Fremont, OH.
