Richard Ernst Harder, 86, of Fremont, OH passed away, surrounded by his family, on Monday, January 10, 2022 at ProMedica Memorial Hospital. He was born on February 24, 1935 in Oak Harbor, OH, the son of Ernst Claus E. and Rhea Margaret (Laubacher) Harder. Richard married Fern M. Marsh on July 28, 1954 in Genoa, OH and she preceded him in death on March 26, 2012. He worked at Whirlpool Corporation in the paint department for thirty years and retired May 1, 1999. Along with working at Whirlpool, he was a lifelong farmer. Richard was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he taught Sunday school for ten years and held many church offices. He was also a member of 4-H for ten years. Richard enjoyed fishing, hunting, football, playing Euchre, telling and playing jokes was an avid history buff. He surprised himself with how much he enjoyed his house cats, as well as horses, especially Sally.
Richard is survived by his daughter, Joan (Monte) Adams; son-in-law, Gerard Recker, all of Fremont, OH; grandchildren, Monte Adams II, Alexandria “Lexi” Basilio, Matthew Adams and Joshua Recker; great grandchildren, Elena and Gabriel; siblings, Violet (Donald) Kern, Gary Harder, both of Oak Harbor, OH; close friend, Lee Carrington; his four cats, Buddy, Spotty, Sweet-Pea, and Minnie Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Fern M. Harder; daughter, Rebekah Recker.
Visitation: Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St, Fremont, OH 43420.
Service: Friday, January 14, 2022, 10:30 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 705 W. State St, Fremont, OH 43420 with Pastor Paul Bailie officiating.
Burial: Greenwood Cemetery, Rice Township
