Richard C. Askins, 84, of Green Springs, OH passed away at his home on Thursday, November 21, 2013. He was born on July 20, 1929 in Clyde, OH to Charles Askins and Irene (Brutcher) Smith.
Richard served in the U.S. Army during WWII and U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was awarded the WWII Victory Medal and Army Occupation Medal (Japan).
Richard married Faye Varal Burroughs on March 25, 1966 and she preceded him in death. He worked as a Truck Driver at JW Humbert Trucking and retired after twenty-seven years of service. He was a member of the Local Teamsters. Richard was a Life member of the VFW, American Legion and Clyde Eagles. He was also a member of Nugent Canal Yacht Club and enjoyed fishing and boating.
Richard is survived by his children, Carol Craig, Rick (Angie) Askins, both of Green Springs, OH; step daughters, Jan Hazen, Fremont, OH and Judy (Ray) Douglas, Howell, MI; grandchildren, Cory, Cary, Nicole, Becky, Dawn, John, Jackie, Brad and Robin; five great grandchildren; sister, Bonnie Sylvester.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Faye Varal Askins; siblings, Jack Askins and Lois Hall; step son, Larry Hazen and granddaughter, Kelly Hazen.
Visitation: Wednesday from 9:00 to 11:00 am at Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 211 N. Broadway St, Green Springs, OH.
Service: Wednesday, November 27, 2013, 11:00 am at the funeral home with Pastor Thomas Goosens officiating.
Burial: Green Springs Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Seneca County United Veterans Council.
