Rebecca “Becky” J. Slater, 72, of Fremont passed away surrounded by her family on Saturday, May 25, 2024 at her home. Becky was born on January 8, 1952 to Robert and Donna (Vollmar) Wilson in Sandusky, OH. She was a 1970 graduate of Fremont Ross High School. Becky married Samuel “Sam” H. Slater on October 27, 1973 in Fremont and he preceded her in death on April 6, 2021.
Becky was a housekeeper for Rutherford B. Hayes Library and Museum, starting in May of 1982 and retired in 2020 after 38 years. She always said it was an honor to take care of the president and first lady’s things. She enjoyed travelling with her sister, family game nights, and “her boys” (grandsons). She attended all of her grandsons’ events.
Becky is survived by her children, James “Jim” H. (Janell) Slater; Sarah J. (Tony) Reiter, both of Fremont; siblings, Jeff (Linda) Wilson, Ventura, CA and Andra (Larry) LaVoy, Old Fort, OH; grandchildren, Joshua Slater, Jayden Slater and Blake Reiter.
She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Sam Slater.
A private burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery.
Memorials can be made to the Hayes Presidential Center and Heartland Hospice.
