Phyllis M. Downing

Phyllis M. Downing, 93, of Avon Park, FL passed away surrounded by her family on Wednesday, February 10, 2021.  She was born at home in York Township, Sandusky County on December 21, 1927 to Zeldon and Marian (Schell) Benfer.  Phyllis married Arthur Clarence Downing on June 1, 1947 in Vickery, OH and he preceded her in death on December 6, 2004.  She was a homemaker and enjoyed camping, wintering in Florida and playing shuffleboard.

Phyllis is survived by her children, Jack (Ida) Downing, Green Springs, OH, Jeffrey Downing, Sebring, FL, Jerry (Dorothy) Downing, Green Springs, OH, Janice Downing, Irvine, CA, Jon Downing, Green Springs, OH; daughter-in-law, Martha Downing, Tiffin, OH; sisters-in-law, Ruth Benfer, Bellevue, OH and Kitty Benfer, Green Springs, OH; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, James Downing; brothers, Elson (Ada) Benfer, Dale Benfer and Harold Benfer.

Visitation will be Wednesday, February 17, 2021 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St, Fremont, OH 43420.

The use of face masks is required while indoors at all times. Social distancing will be observed throughout the visitation with wait times taking place outdoors.
