It is with great sorrow that we said goodbye to Philip Gatt, Jr, 35, (also known as Peno by many) on January 14, 2018. We take comfort in knowing that he is in the arms of his savior Jesus Christ.
He leaves behind his precious daughter Gigi Shanahan, of Fremont, whom he loved and cherished. Phil found the love of his life and was looking forward to a future with his fiancé, Jessica Ash, and had a great relationship with her children, Avery and Alyssa, all of Fremont. Surviving are his loving parents, Philip Sr. and Becky Gatt, of Fremont; sisters, Jessica Gatt Hansen (Bob Hansen) of Gibsonburg and Josie Gatt Montgomery (Michael Montgomery) of Westerville; nephews Sam Hansen and Aiden Montgomery and niece Olive Montgomery. Also surviving are his grandparents, Evelyn Gatt (and the late Sam Gatt), Ken and Donna Cole; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends too numerous to count.
He was bright, funny, and could light up the room with his smile and sense of humor. He was not ashamed to claim Jesus as his Lord and Savior and kept his well-marked Bible close. His work ethic was strong, and to say he was a welder by trade does not truly describe the knowledge and expertise Phil achieved in the trade. Welding was his passion, as he was a boilermaker and pipefitter by trade. Phil saw the job, not the danger and had great success within the trade. He was licensed as a Certified Welding Inspector; an achievement he was very proud of. His career allowed him to travel throughout the United States chasing work. His most recent job assignment was for Kokosing in Lordstown Ohio.
Phil was a lifelong member of Victory Church, and was a proud member of Pipefitters Local 396 out of Youngstown and Boilermakers Local 687 out of Rock Hill South Carolina.
