Paul B. Smith
Paul B. Smith, 96, of Green Springs, OH passed away on Friday, November 6, 2020 at the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky, OH. He was born on January 4, 1924 in Green Creek Township, Seneca County to George and Hazel (Hessick) Smith. Paul graduated from Green Springs High School and went on to serve in the Army as a Military Policeman during WWII. He received the American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Ribbon and World War II Victory Medal. Paul married Phyllis Jean Needham on July 3, 1943 at Green Springs United Methodist Church and she preceded him in death on November 19, 2011. He was a lifelong farmer and a member of Green Springs United Methodist Church and Ruskin United Methodist Church, in Ruskin, FL, where he loved singing in the choir.
Paul is survived by his daughter, Rev. Deborah J. Smith, Tampa, FL; grandchildren, Paula Smith, Green Springs, OH; Suzie (Jim) Jones Tiffin, OH; Brandon (Angie) Smith, Fremont, OH; Nicholas Smith Fremont, OH; Jeff (Beth) Stout, Fremont, OH; Danielle (Matt) Huether, Clyde, OH; Johnny Sidney, Brandon, FL; Marchandt Sidney, Las Vegas, NV; Cherise (Keith) Dukes, Fremont, OH; Santandra “Sandy” Sidney, Fremont, OH; David Tucker, Fremont, OH; Brian (Molly) Tucker, Fremont, OH; forty great grandchildren, thirteen great-great grandchildren, fourteen nieces and nephews, and special friends Norb and Cyndi Bliss of Fremont.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Phyllis Jean Smith; son, Byron Smith; daughter Judy Stout; brothers Jim, Bob and Don Smith; grandson Christopher Smith, and great grandchildren, Faye Tucker and Dawson Smith.
Visitation: Friday, November 13, 2020 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Horvath Hanes Funeral Home, 211 N. Broadway St, Green Springs, OH 44836.
The use of face masks is required while indoors at all services. Social distancing will be observed throughout all services with wait times taking place outdoors. If you would prefer, you may express your condolences at www.whhfh.com or call the funeral home at 419-332-6409 to request that your name be signed in the guest book.
Private services will take place for the immediate family and will be officiated by Rev. Lorna McKinstry. Paul’s service will be available to view on his obituary page after November 16, 2020 at www.whhfh.com.
Burial: Green Springs Cemetery with Military Honors provided by United Veterans Council of Seneca County.
Memorials can be made in his honor to the Wounded Warrior Project or Hounds and Heroes.
