Myron O. Bates

Myron O. Bates, 85, of Fremont, OH passed away on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at Bethesda Care Center.  He was born on June 2, 1936 in Rising Sun, OH to Joseph and Cleta (Thrasher) Bates.  He was a 1954 graduate of Rising Sun High School.  Myron served in the U.S. Army from January 22, 1959 until December 14, 1960 and was honorably discharged.  He married Mary Ann Goebel on February 10, 1968 in Fremont and she preceded him in death on July 8, 1999.

Myron worked at Cal Van Tools from 1983 until 1997 where he later became a manager in quality control.  He worked at Reynolds Aluminum for two years.  Myron previously worked at Brush Wellman from 1957 until 1980.  He was a member of the Fremont Moose and a Life Member of the VFW in Fremont.  He enjoyed golf.

Myron is survived by his son, Christopher Bates, Fremont, OH; siblings, Darrel Bates, Sun City, AZ and Gilbert (Zeta) Bates, Grangeville, ID.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Ann Bates; sister, Juanita Strausbaugh; brothers, Derwin and Norman Bates; uncle, Gale Bates.

Services are private.

Burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the VFW and American Legion.

Memorials can be made to the donor’s choice.
