Melvin H. Balduf, Sr, 87, of Fremont, OH passed away surrounded by his loving family on April 13, 2024 at ProMedica Toledo Hospital. He was born on June 17, 1936 in Port Clinton, OH the son of Earl and Margaret (McLaughlin) Balduf. Mel married Karen (Thurn) Miller on March 20, 1973 in Angola, IN and she preceded him in death on March 31, 2024.
Mel was a butcher at Kroger for over forty years until he retired on March 10, 1998. He then worked part time at Ballville EZ Shop for over ten years. Mel also owned and operated several businesses including an Amateur Radio Store, Gun Shop, Ribcage Root Beer Stand and did catering on the side. He enjoyed being a HAM Radio Operator with the call sign of K8ZQM. Mel was a past president of Izaak Walton Fremont League and enjoyed target shooting, fishing and had his private pilot license. He also loved his grandson’s dog, Muffin.
Mel is survived by his step-children, Chuck (Jerri) Miller, Scott (Tamara) Miller, TiAnne Humes all of Fremont, OH; step-grandchildren, Caley Miller, Samantha (Paul) Newbold, Alexandra (Jeff) Mapus, Olivia (Mark) Maloney, Victoria (Kyle Croucher) Miller, Ryan Humes, Shannon Tea; great-granddaughters, Nora Mapus and Harper Newbold.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Lowell Balduf, Edna Melita, Merlin Balduf and Evelyn Hudson.
It was Mel’s wish to have no services at this time. A private celebration of life will take place at a later date.
