Linda Jean Palmer Young, longtime Oak Harbor and Fremont resident, died at the age of 62 on Monday September 2, 2024 at her home surrounded by her family, after a courageous fight against cancer. She was a cherished mother, wife, Oma, sister, daughter, aunt, veteran and friend.
Linda was born in Fremont on January 19, 1962 to Gudrun “Anna” (Kitzing) Palmer and Harley C. Palmer Sr., who predeceased her. She was on the tennis team during her school years, working from a very young age to purchase her first car (early 70’s gold Comet) at 16. She graduated from Fremont Ross High School with her beloved Class of 1980.
She joined the Air Force shortly after graduation, and was stationed at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois as a Supply Officer. During that time, she travelled to Korea and Japan for team spirit exercises, also playing softball for MAC in California. She spent four years in Air Force active duty where she received the Air Force Good Conduct Medal and the Air Force Longevity Award, then moved into a 2-year assignment with the Air National Guard for Missouri. She returned to Ohio in the late 1980s and began her 32-year career with the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 2019.
Linda met her Husband Brian at Put-In-Bay, and they were married on September 23, 1994, becoming a family with Linda’s son Dakota and soon, their son Dylan. She loved being a mom, encouraging both sons in all their interests, including Sports and Academics.
She enjoyed crafts, decorating, bargain shopping, exploring new places and doing new things. Among her greatest joys were spending time with her Grandchildren, camping, going to Cedar Point, and attending their athletic and school events.
She is survived by her Husband of 30 years Brian Young of Oak Harbor, her Sons Dakota Young and Dylan Young, both of Toledo, and bonus Daughter Brianna (Wayne) Rivest of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin (along with their children). Sister, Amy Overmyer of Fremont, and Grandchildren Jaxson and Colson Young, In-Laws Mike and Carolyn Young of Woodville, and Brother-in-Law Paul (Jody) Young of Lucky and their children also survive. Nieces Lauren (Jeremy) Wadsworth of Clyde, along with Great-Nephew, Emerson Wadsworth, and Ashley Overmyer also survive. In addition, she was predeceased by her Brother Harley Palmer Jr. of New Market, New Hampshire and special Cousin Linda Merrill of Fremont and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Numerous lifelong friends, including dear friend Marcia Smith of Clearwater FL, will never forget her! She was a loving, kind, funny, generous and adventurous brave woman.
The family wishes to thank her Doctors Vivek Abhyan Kar M.D. and Holly Martinez N.P and the kind staff at the Cleveland Clinic of Sandusky for their vigilant care of Linda and their compassion in her treatment.
