Kay Miranda died suddenly at home on July 11, 2024 at age 82. Kay was born in Pontiac, Michigan on October 26, 1941, to Erwin and Catherine Greer. Kay attended Waterford Township High School, and then graduated from Monticello College in Alton, Illinois with an associate’s degree in Marketing. She worked for six years for Jacobson’s Stores in Birmingham, Michigan selling women’s fashions.
In 1964 she met Jim Miranda and they married at the First Congregational Church of Pontiac, Michigan in November of that year. She and Jim had two children, Catherine Gilbert of Glendale, California and Anthony Miranda who resides in Knoxville, Tennessee. She was a stay-at-home mom while her children were in school. When they had graduated from high school she returned to the workforce for seven years as an instructor at My School Pre-School in Waterford, Michigan.
Kay and Jim were relocated to Fremont, Ohio in 1998 by his employer, and soon became active at the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center. Kay was delighted to be a regular server at teas and other events at the Dillon House, at that time a part of the Hayes Center, and continued to serve as a volunteer at the Hayes Center. She was an avid fan of the Spiegel Grove Squires vintage baseball team sponsored by the Hayes Center, on which Jim has served as “Tallyman” (scorekeeper), since 2002, and was affectionately known as Lady Kay by team members.
Kay is survived by her husband of 59 years, Jim of Fremont; daughter, Catherine and her husband Ernie Gilbert and their four sons, Kean, Aiden, Asher and Race. She is also survived by son, Anthony Miranda, his wife, Danelle and son, Cole. Her children and five grandsons were the joys of her life. In addition, she is survived by sister-in-law, Lynn Greer, nephews, Matt and Brandon Greer and niece, Emmy (Greer) Conlin, and five grandnieces and one grandnephew, all of Michigan. Brother George Greer preceded her in death.
