K. Wayne Naujoks, 88, of Fremont, OH passed away at home on Friday, January 4, 2013. He was born on March 9, 1924 in Bettsville, OH the son of Christopher and Beulah (Carper) Naujoks. He was a 1942 graduate of Bettsville High School. Wayne married Jessie A. Boos on June 13, 1942 in Tiffin, OH and she preceded him in death on December 18, 2012.
Wayne served in the US Army during WWII from 1943 to 1945 as an anti-tank gunner in the Big Red One Infantry Division. He served in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Central Europe, Ardennes and Sicily. Wayne received the EAME Theater Ribbon with 6 Bronze Stars and a Bronze Arrowhead, Good Conduct Ribbon, Purple Heart, Presidential Distinguished Unit Citation and the Bronze Star Medal.
Wayne worked at C.E. Basic for over forty years until he retired in 1985. He started as a laborer and worked his way up to Supervisor of the Research Department. He was a member of Grace Community Church, Bettsville American Legion, Basic quarter of a century club, Green Springs Masonic Lodge 0427 and was a life member of the Fremont V.F.W. He enjoyed gardening, flower gardening and fishing.
Wayne is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Gloria and Tom Mitchell; son-in-law, Ray Myers; grandson, Ryan Mitchell and great granddaughter, Savannah Mitchell, all of Fremont, OH.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Jessie Naujoks; daughter, Pam Myers and grandson, Randy Myers.
Visitation: Tuesday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St., Fremont, OH 43420.
Service: Tuesday, January 8, 2013, 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Forrest Kirchenbauer officiating.
Burial: Pleasant Union Cemetery in Old Fort, OH with military honors provided by the American Legion and V.F.W.
