Jorge Arevalo Melho, 80, of Peru, passed away peacefully on April 5th, 2018 at his home in Fremont, OH with his family by his side. He was born on May 27, 1937 in Iquitos, Peru to Juan Arevalo and Julieta Melho de Arevalo.
Jorge, mostly known as Chololongo; is taking his medical practice and teachings next to our lord Jesus Christ where he will continue to care for the physical and spiritual health for all people. Jorge carried out his life embedded with a great sense of humor that made him a unique individual and a family man. His legacy remains through his family and all the medical students he taught during his life. Dr. Jorge Arevalo inspired his daughter, Dr. Iracema Arevalo, to start the medical mission to provide health care for people in need in the rain forest of Peru.
Jorge received a Doctorate Degree in Medicine and was a Pediatrician for 56 years until the last days of his life. He headed the medical school at the Amazonian University for many years.
Jorge is survived by his loving wife of fifty years, Zoilita Perea de Arevalo, Fremont, OH; children, Dr. Iracema (Otto Gonzalez) Arevalo, Fremont, OH, Enrique (Veronica Gibaja) Arevalo, Boston, MA, Patricio (Rosario Morales) Arevalo, Lima, Peru, and Joaquin (Yesica Durand) Arevalo, Montreal, Canada; siblings, Javier Arevalo, Dora Arevalo, Neldita Arevalo and Ana Arevalo; grandchildren, Tomas, Andrea, Tiago , Benjamin, Sebastian and Valeria.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Enrique, Raul, and Delicia Arevalo.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 550 Smith Rd., Fremont, OH with Father Chris Kardzis officiating the service. There will be an hour of gathering prior to the mass at the church.
