John J. “Jocko” Latvis, 84, of Fremont, OH passed away on Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at the Ohio Veteran’s Home in Sandusky, OH. He was born on May 27, 1930 in Lawrence, MA to Frank and Tafilia (Petrouskas) Latvis. He was a 1948 graduate of Lawrence High School.
Jocko served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from May 3, 1951 to April 18, 1953 and was awarded the AOM (Germany) Medal.
He married Rita A. Torres on December 15, 1950 in Salem, NH and she preceded him in death on September 5, 2009.
Jocko worked as a Combination Man at AT&T for thirty-two years and retired in 1985. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a Life member of the VFW. He enjoyed woodworking and model building.
Jocko is survived by his daughter, Sandra (John) Good, Fremont, OH; step-son, Joseph (Patricia) Rodriguez, Millbury, OH; grandchildren, Timothy (Carmen) Latvis, Jenny (Justin Viens) Latvis, Josh (Laura) Good, Julie (Christopher) Schnee, Jacoby Good, Joe Rodriguez, Jr., John and Jim Rodriguez; great grandchildren, Caleb and Faith Latvis, Bailey Good, Lola and Ella Schnee, Emi and Eowyn Viens.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rita A. Latvis; son, Steven Latvis; sister, Aldona Koepfer and brother, Joseph Latvis.
Visitation: Friday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 550 Smith Rd., Fremont, OH.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial: Friday, October 3, 2014; 11:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. Kenneth Lill officiating.
Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery, Fremont, OH with military honors provided by the American Legion and V.F.W.
