Joanne L. Rathfelder

Joanne L. Rathfelder, 81 of Fremont, OH passed away surrounded by her family Sunday, March 4, 2018 at her daughter’s home. She was born on April 22, 1936 in Fremont to Frank and Florence (Rufty) Rathfelder and was the last of her eleven siblings.

Joanne worked for Singer Controls for thirty years. She also worked for the Fremont Moose and Fremont Eagles. Joanne enjoyed camping, spending time with family and her dog Sergeant.

Joanne is survived by her children, Susan Growel, Robert (Karen) Growel, of Fremont, OH, Jean (Mark) Benner, Oak Harbor, OH; sister-in-law, Mary Rathfelder, Old Fort; grandchildren, Jason (Bridget) Smith, Ashleigh (Dean) Simpson, Ryan Growel, Conner Growel, Julie Garza, Philip Benner, Stephanie Benner; great grandchildren, Ella Smith, Ruby Smith, Lexie Gschwind, Lyssa Gschwind, Keith Gschwind, Jr., Layla Simpson, Luca Simpson; former husband, Clifton Smith.

She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, James (Mabel), Ralph (Joyce), Irvin and George (Peggy) Rathfelder, Edna Hufford and Ruth (Carl) Nighswander; infant brothers, Johnny and Harold Rathfelder.

Visitation: Thursday from 2 to 7 p.m. at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E State St., Fremont, OH.

Service: Friday, March 9, 2018; 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

Burial: Oakwood Cemetery, Fremont
