Jeanne Reed

Jeanne Reed, 100, of Toledo, OH and formerly of Green Springs, OH passed away on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at the University of Toledo Medical College. She was born on July 24, 1918 in Seneca County and in the wake of a family tragedy at a very early age was adopted by her uncle and aunt James W. and Clara (Hohenstein) Reed. Jeanne was a graduate of Green Springs High School and went on to college at Miami University and Wayne State University.

Jeanne worked in education as a teacher, administrator, and member of the Detroit City School Board, and was well-known and respected in the education community for her numerous published works, including textbooks, teaching guides, and reference materials. She established, funded, and managed The Jeanne Reed Foundation (now part of the Toledo Community Foundation) which still supports a vast array of charitable projects, ranging from assisting underprivileged children to land and wildlife conservation and management. She was a member of Green Springs United Methodist Church. In her free time she enjoyed traveling with friends and saw much of the world over the years.

Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents, and is survived by family members Wyatt Reed and Rynette (Reed) Vall of Middleburg Heights, OH.

Jeanne’s wishes were to have no services at this time. A family-only graveside service will take place at a later date at Butternut Ridge Cemetery, Clyde, OH.
