James “Jay” Bruce Snider, 84, of Fremont, OH passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at Fremont ProMedica Hospital. He was born on February 13, 1941 in Marion, OH to Bruce and Mildred (Macgillavray) Snider. After high school Jay attended Bowling Green University and then went on to receive his bachelor’s degree at Ohio Northern University. He furthered his education at Kent State University, receiving his master’s degree and worked on obtaining his PH.D. Jay’s love for his country led him to serve in the Army Reserves for seven years.
Jay married Angela (Schellkopf) Swartz on March 21, 2002 and she survives. He was the Chief Curator (one of nine in the United States) at The Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center where he dedicated thirty-two years of service and established the Presidential Potpourri Exhibit. Jay also taught at Tiffin University and Terra Community College for many years, which became his greatest love. He was a member of the Fremont Elk Lodge and enjoyed researching information about past and current presidents and spending time with his cousins.
Jay is survived by his wife of twenty-two years, Angela Swartz, Fremont, OH; children, Laura (Walter) Rowan of South Carolina, Douglas Snider, Columbus, OH; twin stepdaughters, Tonia Lowe, Tricia Springer; stepdaughter, Charlie Swartz; grandchildren, Palmer and Pate; step grandchildren, Parker, Gracie, Maggie and Laine; brother, Ronald (Coral) Snider, Hillard, OH; nieces, Jenny (Joe) Hollabaugh, Jill (Dave) Payne; nephew, Nick Snider, former wife, Judy Snider of South Carolina.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
A Celebration of Life will take place at a later.
