James R. Smith, 89, of Green Springs, OH passed away on Friday, May 08, 2020 at The Willows at Bellevue, in Bellevue, OH. He was born on July 21, 1930 in Tiffin, OH the son of James William and Flora Susan (Tusing) Smith. He was a 1949 graduate of Old Fort High School.

James married Loretta “Peg” Mae Phenicie on July 2, 1950 in Attica and she preceded him in death on July 23, 2010.

James worked for Kenny Myers for twelve years and retired from Miller Pipeline after twenty-five years of service. He also retired from the Green Springs Fire Department. James attended Grace Community Church. He was a member of the Masons #427; Ohio Operating Engineers Union and was a social member of both VFW Post #6067 and American Legion Post #295.

James is survived by his children, Annette Rose Smith and Ronald James (Shari) Smith both of Green Springs, OH; grandchildren, Dustin James, Brianne Elizabeth and Rebecca Dianne Smith; great granddaughter, Raelynne Nichole Potridge, Braxtyn Ryan Potridge and Madelynn Renea Potridge.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of sixty years, Loretta “Peg” Mae Smith; son, James Robert Smith, Jr. and daughter, Diane Lynn Smith.

Family and Friends are invited to be a part of James’ Fireman Funeral Procession. Please arrive at the Horvath Hanes Funeral Home parking lot, 211 N Broadway St, Green Springs, OH and remain in your vehicle, as part of the social gathering guidelines, at 10:45 a.m.

A graveside service will take place at Green Springs Cemetery on Thursday, May 14, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Forrest Kirchenbauer officiating.

Memorials can be made to Green Springs Volunteer Fire Department.
