James O. Nieman

James O. Nieman, 88, of Fremont, OH passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, December 10, 2023 at ProMedica Memorial Hospital.  He was born on November 26, 1935 in Marion, IN to James H. Nieman and Viola (Cramer) Fausey.  Jim graduated from Howe High School in 1953 in Indianapolis, IN where he was a great baseball player. 

Jim married Charlene Pettys on September 14, 1957 at St. Mark’s Church in Clyde, OH and she survives.  He worked at Whirlpool where he retired after forty-two years as a Process Engineer.  Jim was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time with his family. 

Jim is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Charlene Nieman; children, Dr. James M. (Kelsy) Nieman, Lima, OH, Julie (Aaron) Cheek, Fremont, OH; grandchildren, Alexa (Sean Roche) Nieman, Ava Nieman, Jake Nieman, Nicholas Nieman, Lincoln Woods, Shea Jones and Sierra Jones; sister, Patsy Haisley; brother-in-law, Vern Magrum; niece and nephews, Glenn, Gene and Marilea.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Clifford Fausey; infant sister, Mary Nieman; sisters, Therese Magrum and Darlene Hays.

Visitation will take place on Saturday, December 16, 2023 from 10:00 am to Noon at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St, Fremont, OH 43420.

Services will begin at Noon following the visitation at the funeral home.

Burial will be at McPherson Cemetery, Clyde, OH.
