James M. Heins, 78, of Fremont, OH passed away on Monday, September 29, 2014 at Toledo Hospital. He was born on March 27, 1936 in Allen Township, OH, the son of Martin and Ethel (Hovis) Heins. He was a graduate of Jackson Burgoon High School.
James served in the U.S. Army from September 27, 1955 to September 6, 1957 and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal.
James married Shirley A. Day on February 27, 1959 in Fremont and she survives. He worked as a Supervisor at Whirlpool Corporation for thirty-eight years and retired in 1992. James was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, the Fremont Eagles and was a Volunteer Fireman for the Ballville Fire Department. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. James enjoyed gardening, fishing, farming and was an avid sports fan, especially The Ohio State University, Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians.
James is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Shirley A. Heins; children, Cynthia Monroe and Tammy (Dennis) Reedy, all of Fremont, OH; siblings, Lorna (Roger) Garn, Fostoria, John (Sandy) Heins, Fairview, OH, Ronda Krotzer, Bettsville, OH; grandchildren, Jason (Bobbi) Hull, Tommy (Melanie) Wagner, Andy (Meghan) Wagner, Heather Wagner and ten great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Gerri Saam, son-in-law, Donald Monroe.
Visitation: Thursday from 2 – 4 pm and 6 – 8 pm with an Eagles Service at 7:30 pm and Friday from Noon until 1:00 pm at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St, Fremont, OH.
Service: Friday, October 3, 2014, 1:00 pm at the funeral home with Pastor Paul Gruetter officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion and VFW.
A Private Burial will take place at Greenlawn Memory Gardens at a later date.
Memorials: American Heart Association or the American Lung Association.
