James "Jim" A. Smith

James “Jim” A. Smith, 70, of Fremont, OH passed away surrounded by his family on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at his home. Jim was born on April 20, 1954 to Donald H. and Stella (Schetter) Smith in Fremont, OH. Jim was a 1973 graduate of Fremont Ross High School and Vanguard Tech Center.

Jim worked as a body man in his earlier years in Custard, OH. He went on to work for Green Bay Packaging for forty-two years until he retired in 2018. Jim was a volunteer Firefighter for Sandusky Township Volunteer Fire Department from 1978 to 2010. Jim enjoyed bowling, bike riding on the trail and riding to check out people’s yards and Gunsmoke. He was an avid Ohio State, Cleveland Cavaliers and Cleveland Browns Fan. 

Jim is survived by his siblings, Rick “Alfie” Smith, Fremont, Doug (Kathy) Smith, Tiffin, Scott Smith, Cindy Smith, Jerry Smith all of Fremont, Rose Chamberlain, Vickery and Tammy (Rex) Smith, Tiffin; sister-in-law, Helen Smith; brother-in-law, Steve Miles; many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Kathy Miles; brother, Fred Smith; brother-in-law, Gary Chamberlain; sister-in-law, Joy Counts; nephew, Nathan Smith; great nephew, Austin Arndt and great niece Kendall Smith.

Visitation will take place on Wednesday, February, 5, 2025 from 4-8 p.m. at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St., Fremont, OH 43420.

Services will take place on Thursday, February 6, 2025 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with an hour of visitation prior starting at 9 a.m. 

Burial will follow at Lindsey Cemetery.

Memorials can be made in Jim’s honor to Stein Hospice or Sandusky Township Volunteer Fire Department.
