James E. Neiling, 77 of Fremont, OH passed away, Sunday, October 06, 2013 at Memorial Hospital. He was born December 30, 1935 in Bowling Green, OH to John R. and Marjorie (Mercer) Neiling. James was a 1953 graduate of Jackson Township High School. He served in the US Army from 1954 to 1956 in Germany and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal.
James married Dorothy J Bates on June 28, 1958 at St. Rose in Perrysburg, OH and she survives. He worked for Brush Wellman for fourteen years and then Peter Eckrich for fourteen years. James retired from St. Joseph Elementary School as their custodian.
James was a member of the Fremont VFW, Sacred Heart were he was a in the Men’s association, and a Lector and Eucharist Minister. He loved woodworking.
James is survived by his wife, Dorothy Neiling, Fremont, OH; children, Peter (Lori) Neiling, Fremont, OH, David Neiling, Cygnet, OH, Steven (Sheryl) Neiling, Fremont, OH, Joel Neiling, Weston, OH, Andra (Victor) Josifov, Rittman, OH, Marjorie Trevino, Waterville, OH, Sara (Patrick) Shanahan, Fremont, OH; sister, Betty (Edwin) Kern, Bowling Green, OH, sister-in-law, Ann Neiling, Winter Haven and fifteen grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Mark Allen Neiling and brothers, Daniel and John Neiling.
Visitation: Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St., Fremont, OH.
Mass of Christian Burial: Thursday, October 10, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church 550 Smith Rd., Fremont, OH with Fr. William Pifher officiating.
Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery with a Military Service provided by the Fremont American Legion and VFW.
