James “Dick” Da Bruiser” Roy Liggins, Sr.

James “Dick” da Bruiser” Roy Liggins, Sr., 78, of Fremont, OH entered God’s gates and grew his wings and flew home on March 12, 2017. He was born May 9, 1938, in Oxford, MS to Robert and Rebecca (Peagues) Liggins.

James was employed at Whirlpool and later went to work for the Simms Brothers. James married Evelyn “Dean” Wells on October 29, 1960 in Fremont and she survives. He is also survived by companion of forty-seven years, Eleanor James.

James was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church where he loved playing his guitar. He enjoyed playing cards, scratch tickets, fishing and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

James is also survived by his daughters, Annette Liggins, Toledo, OH, Vangie Nickson, Indianapolis, IN, Shayla Johnson, Fremont, OH; sons, James Roy (Lee Ann) Liggins, Jr., Fremont, OH, Lawrence Jackson, Waukegan, IL, Jermani Homler, Fremont, OH; twelve grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and two special great grandchildren; siblings, John H. (Clara) Liggins, Dorothy (David) Mathis both of Utica, NY, Lillie Mae Savage, Salem, NC, Adlene Harris, Oakland, CA and Rosie (Frank) Cole, Saginaw, MI.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Robert, Tommie and Arthur “AW” Liggins; sister, Willie Mae and grandson, Travis.

Visitation and Service: Friday, March 17, 2017, from 10:00 am until Noon at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, 927 Stilwell Ave, Fremont, OH. Service will begin at Noon at the Church with Pastor Herman Norwood officiating.

Burial: Greenlawn Memory Gardens, Clyde, OH
