Jack D. Zimmerman

Jack D. Zimmerman, 98, of Fremont, OH passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at Magruder Hospital in Port Clinton. Jack was born on October 30, 1926 to Galland “Tom” and Irene (Hampshere) Zimmerman in Fremont, OH . Jack was a 1944 graduate of Fremont Ross High School. Jack served in the United States Navy from October 1944 to September 1946 where he earned the Victory Medal, American Area Medal and Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal. Jack married Mary “Mott” M. Overmyer on June 19, 1948 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Lindsay, OH and she preceded him in death on December 7, 2003. 

Jack worked for General Electric as a Machine Adjuster and Forman until he retired in 1984 after thirty-eight years of service. He was a member of Nugent’s Canal Yacht Club where he was a Dock Master for many years and Treasurer for two years. He enjoyed boating and camping, and he was an avid antique collector and wood worker. Jack had a great love for his family and enjoyed helping people in any capacity.

Jack is survived by his children, Tim (Debbie) Zimmerman, Port Clinton, OH, Martha Frater, Fremont, OH; daughter-in-law, Sandy Zimmerman, Bellevue, OH; grandchildren, Steph, Cory, Kyle, Kristi, Mike, Matt; great grandchildren, Cooper, Taylor, Alyssa, William, Weston, Eliza, Jack and great-great granddaughter, Hazely; loving companion of seventeen years, Bonnie Conley.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Mary Zimmerman; son, Tom Zimmerman; son-in-law, Mike Frater; sister, Joyce Zimmerman.

Visitation will take place on Sunday, January 26, 2025 from 1-4 p.m. at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St. Fremont, OH 43420.

Services will follow visitation on Sunday at 4 p.m. at the funeral home. 

Burial will take place at McGormley Cemetery at a later date.
