Gerald “Jerry” R. Schey, 66, of Fremont, OH passed away at his home on Wednesday, April 15, 2015. He was born on July 12, 1948 in Fremont, the son of Woodrow and Gladys (Tooman) Schey. He attended Fremont Ross High School.
Jerry served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal w/One Star; Vietnamese Campaign Medal w/ Device and Good Conduct Medal.
Jerry was an Operating Engineer with Local 18 – Toledo, OH for over thirty years. He was a member of the Fremont VFW, American Legion, Fremont Yacht Club and Operator Engineer Local 18. He loved boating and fishing.
Jerry is survived by his daughter, Sadie (Joel) Reamer of Fremont, OH; twin sister, Cherie (Stephen) Shambaugh of Ft. Wayne, IN; grandchildren, Etzio and Amaiya Reamer and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation: Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E State St., Fremont, OH.
Service: Monday, April 20, 2015: 10: 30 a.m. at the funeral home.
Burial: Oakwood Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the American Legion and VFW.
Memorials: Wounded Warrior Project or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
