Francisco Y. Contreras

Francisco Y. Contreras, 98, of Fremont, OH passed away surrounded by his family on Friday, May 10, 2024 at his home. Francisco was born on October 10, 1925 to Ursulo and Maria De Los Angeles (Yanez) Contreras in Yahualica, Jalisco, Mexico. Francisco married his lifelong partner of sixty-three years Olivia Leal-Contreras.

Francisco served in the Mexican Armed Forces in Monterrey, NL, Mexico in 1943 where he was a Sergeant, he moved to the United States determined to provide a better life for his family. He made Fremont, OH his permanent home in 1950. He worked for Nickels Bakery for twenty-seven years until he retired in 1990. Francisco was strong, generous, and wise. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t do. Francisco loved music, dancing, movies and westerns. He served many roles in his family, chef, barber, mechanic, medic, handyman and so much more. He was known for his dedication and generosity to Latino families who were in need. 

Francisco is survived by his life-long partner and wife of sixty-three years, Olivia Leal-Contreras; children, Magdalena (Marcos) Contreras-Lopez, Fremont, OH, Almarosa (Felipe) Contreras-Becerra, Fremont, OH, Rosalinda (Morlon) Contreras-Harris, Toledo, OH, Angelica (Ricardo) Contreras-Alonso, Fremont, OH; grandchildren, Madeline, Mariela, Marcos II, Isaias, Francisco, Eva (Chris), Rosalinda, Antonia, Adrian; fifteen great-grandchildren; sister, Maria Del Rosario Contreras-Sandoval; and many nieces and nephews. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Santos Leon Garcia; infant children, Perla, Adan and Leonel Contreras; two sisters and six brothers. 

Visitation will take place Thursday, May 16, 2024 from 4-8 p.m. at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St. Fremont, OH 43420.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place Friday, May 17, 2024 from 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 709 Croghan St, Fremont, OH 43420 with an hour of visitation prior starting at 9 a.m.

Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery, Fremont, OH

Memorials can be made in his honor to Heartland Hospice or St. Joseph Catholic Church.
