Eugene Moore, who lived most of his life in Tiffin, Ohio, finished his life here on earth Tuesday, February 25, and is now enjoying his homecoming with Jesus.
Eugene was born July 1, 1918 in Old Fort, North Carolina, to James and Mamie Moore. They both died when he was a young boy, and at age eleven he and his brothers came to live in Tiffin at the Junior Home for kids, with hundreds of other orphans. Many of those Junior Home kids continue to come back to Tiffin every Labor Day weekend to see each other and enjoy spending time together.
Eugene served in the United States Army during World War II. He later met and married Laura Plemmons, and together they had four children: Donna Scully, Fremont, Ohio; Glen (Leona) Moore, Maysville, Kentucky; Betty (Lee) Shaffer, Fremont, Ohio; and Brenda (Mark) Brown, Tiffin, Ohio. Dad was very blessed to have lived five years with Brenda and Mark in their home. They were his primary care givers during that time up until Dad fell and broke his hip, thus needing more care than he could be given at home. He spent his last year at Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Fostoria, where he was cared for with an abundance of compassion, love and attention. Our family sincerely thanks Brenda and Mark and everyone at Good Shepherd for all they did to care for Dad and honor him so wonderfully.
He was a big Cleveland Indians fan and loved watching them on TV. He was a brakeman for Basic, Inc in Bettsville, retiring in 1983. Dad was a faithful member of the Fremont Church of God for over forty years, mowing the yard for many of those years.
Our dad was a humble and special man. He and Mom made sure they took their children to church when they were young and gave us a Christian heritage that we all still embrace today. He showed us how to work hard and take care of our own children. He loved being Grandpa Moore and visiting with his grandchildren: Lisa, Jason, Michele, Amber, Jeremy, Jared, and Jacob; and great-grandchildren: Mikayla, Alerik, Ethan, Seth, Libe, Ashlynn, Morgan, Rider, Baylynn, and Lola. He was good to all of them.
We celebrate and honor our dad’s life, as he was a kind and generous man and we will have a void in our hearts and life without him. He is now in heaven with our mom after being apart for over 33 years, and for that we rejoice for them. Dad’s brothers Thad, Lee, Troy, and Benny also preceded him in death, and his brother George survives in Long Beach, California.
Visitation will be at Victory Church, 2051 Oak Harbor Rd, Fremont, Ohio, on Friday, February 28, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. Services will follow at 12:00 pm with Pastor Scott Robles officiating.
Burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the American Legion and VFW.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Victory Church.
