Esperanza “Hope” Medellin

Esperanza “Hope” Medellin, loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandma, and great-grandma passed away peacefully at her home on Monday October 18, 2021, with family by her side.  She was born on June 13, 1952 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Roman J. and Harriet M. (Maldonado) Lopez.

Esperanza married Ernesto “Ernie” Medellin, Sr. on April 28, 1973 at St. Ann Church in Fremont, Ohio.  She worked for H.J Heinz Co. for thirty-seven years and retired in August of 2018.

Hope loved spending time with family and attending many family gatherings.  She loved to cook, especially dishes that were everyone’s favorite.  With a creative hand she could sew things one stitch at a time, whether it’s fixing frayed cuffs or patching a hole, she could do it all.

Every so often Hope would get an itch in her hand to search for that winning lottery ticket.  With any of her winnings she would go shopping, garage sale or estate sale shopping looking for the greatest bargains.  She also had such an eye for collecting the most beautiful brooches and angels she came across.  Hope also had such an amazing green-thumb, an incredible passion for making things grow and bloom as well as her soul did.

Hope had such a beautiful smile and an infectious laugh that could make the room light up, especially when she would tell a joke or playfully pick on her kids, grandkids, or sisters.  There wasn’t a moment that she wouldn’t take advantage of to make someone laugh.  She will definitely be missed by all of us.

Hope is survived by her husband, Ernesto “Ernie” Medellin, Sr., Fremont, OH; children, Ernesto (Kristy Weyer) Medellin, Jr. and Yolanda Medellin both of Fremont, OH; mother, Harriet M. Lopez, Fremont, OH; siblings, Ramona Young and Carmelita (Robert) Yeisley both of Fremont, OH, Lynn (John) Keyes, Toledo, OH, Ronald (Betty Jane) Lopez, Goodrich, MI, Felicia (Thomas) Obregon, Felix (Sandy) Lopez, Harriet (Martin) Hernandez and Bernadine (Jose) Martinez, all of Fremont, OH, Rachel (Scott) Lopez-Stine, Galena, OH; grandchildren, Ariana M. Garcia, Michael C. Thomas II and Serenity R. Thomas and great granddaughter, Nova D. Uballe.

She is preceded in death by her father; grandchildren, Isaiah James and Madison Rena Thomas; nephew, Richard “Ricky” Lopez, Sr.; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Sotero and Manuela Medellin; nephew, Martiniano A. Hernandez.

Visitation: Thursday, October 28, 2021, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Victory Church, 2051 Oak Harbor Rd, Fremont, OH.  Funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm at the church.  Family has requested that all friends and family wear masks during visitation and services.

Burial:  Oakwood Cemetery
