Edmee I. Moor

Edmee (“Clocky”) Moor died on March 24, 2017, at Parkview Continuing Care Center in Fremont, OH, encircled in love. She was 6 days from turning 103-years-old.

Edmee was born in Wood County to Herbert and Bertha (Spoores) Moor on March 30, 1914. She grew up in rural northwest Ohio in a modest farmhouse “back of the lane,” and she often recalled that as a four-year old, she marched around in the front yard with some of her brothers and sisters, celebrating the end of World War I. A few years later, she survived a bout of typhoid fever when she drank from a contaminated field well. She attended and graduated from Milton Township High School, where she also played basketball.

Edmee was a retired employee of the H.J. Heinz Company in Fremont, where she worked for 41 years before retiring in 1979. She was one of the first group of employees hired at the new Fremont plant and remembered that the factory’s front doors hadn’t yet been installed on her first day of work. She also recalled working side by side with German and Italian prisoners of war during WW II.

After her retirement, Edmee made the most of the next 38 years. Among her many activities, she was renowned in the family as an excellent and prolific baker. For decades, every Christmas season she would bake 32 different kinds of cookies for family and friends. It was only after she was in her 90s that she began, reluctantly, to cut back. In addition, Edmee volunteered in various roles at Hayes Memorial United Methodist Church, where she was a faithful member, and also served as a Red Cross volunteer for many years, helping with numerous blood banks. But most of all, Edmee enjoyed surrounding herself with family. She loved caring for and supporting her two grandsons in various activities through the years, and she rarely missed any family celebration. She was always happiest when she could spend time with her immediate family and with her brothers and sisters and their families. She always talked fondly and proudly of how she and her siblings sacrificed so generously and tirelessly for one another. She was the living example of her Old English namesake: “Edmee—The Happy Protectress. One who cares for her family with pleasure.”

Edmee, who was a proud, independent, single mother, is survived by her son John (Marty); grandsons Duncan and Graham; and numerous nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews, and great-grand-nieces and great-grand nephews, all of whom she cherished and who cherished her.

She was preceded in death by her parents and by all 12 brothers and sisters: Faye, John, Mabel, Mel, Paul, Oral, Harold, Vera, Mildred, Donald, Maurice and Doris.

A memorial service celebrating Edmee’s life will be held at Hayes Memorial United Methodist Church in Fremont on Saturday, April 1, at 11 a.m. with a one hour visitation prior to her service.

Memorials can be made to Fremont Area Foundation/Swim & Dive, 1409 E. State Street PMB #124, Fremont, OH, 43420.
