Durwood F. Brooks, 97, of Fremont, OH went to be with his Lord peacefully on Thursday, December 26, 2013 at Elmwood Healthcare Center at the Springs in Green Springs, OH. He was born December 31, 1915 in North Baltimore, OH, the son of Mirl and Bertha (Carnicom) Brooks. He was a 1935 graduate of Fremont Ross High School.
Durwood served in the U.S. Army during WWII where he engaged in battles in Northern France, Ardennes, the Rineland and Central Europe. He was awarded the WWII Victory Medal, European-African-Middle-Eastern Theater Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal.
Durwood married Claudine Hoffman on June 14, 1941 in Fremont and she preceded him in death on May 10, 1997. He was a Machinist for sixteen years at Herbrand Corporation. He was a Toolmaker at the former Eaton Controls for three years and also a Carpenter for three years before moving to Florida in 1961 where he worked as a Machinist for twenty-two years.
Durwood was a Charter member of Grace Community Church. His passion was working with youths and was active in the youth group at church as well as with National Youth Groups.
Durwood is survived by his sons, Timothy (Judy) Brooks, Fremont, OH, Larry (Leslie) Brooks, Springfield, VA; daughter, Faye (Mark) Murtland, Deerfield Beach, FL; sister, Doris Wiles, Fremont, OH; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Claudine Brooks; brother, Carl Brooks.
