Duane E. “Pete” Fry, 83, of Fremont, OH passed away suddenly Friday, August 30, 2013 at his home. He was born May 3, 1930 in Bloomdale, OH to Elmer and Ella (Kaiser) Fry. Pete served in the US Army from June 1946 to March 1951 and again in the US Air Force from August 1951 to August 1955 and was awarded the Korean Service Medal, United Nation Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Pete married Irene Geldin and she survives.
Pete was an Operating Engineer for Union Local 18 for over 50 years. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, a member of the Brainard Lodge, 32nd Mason, a Lifetime Member of the VFW, a member of the Bettsville American Legion and the National Riffle Association. He enjoyed spending time with his family, sitting on the porch and supporting his grandsons in their interests and activities.
Pete is survived by his wife of many years, Irene Fry; daughter, Connie (Michael) Smith; grandchildren, Justin C. Smith, Jacob Elmer Smith and Joshua M. Smith, all of Fremont, OH; many loving nieces and nephews and his loving dog, Barney.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Norene Harpster and Janet Walter; niece, Jane Douglass.
Visitation: Tuesday from 2– 4 pm and 6 – 8 pm at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St, Fremont, OH.
Service: Wednesday, September 4, 2013, 11:00 am with one hour of visitation prior to the service at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 212 N. Clover St, Fremont, OH; Pastor Joseph Lees officiating.
Burial: Oakwood Cemetery, Fremont
Memorials: St. John’s Lutheran Church, Bettsville American Legion or Gideon Bibles.
