Dorothy J. Shorty

Dorothy Jean Shorty, 76, of Fremont, OH passed away at home surrounded by her family. She was born on November 2, 1948 in Clarksdale, MS to King Johnson and Josiephine (Washington) Cohen.

Dorothy was a homemaker for many years. She worked at Woodall and then retired from Sandusky County Child Support Office. Dorothy’s passion was cooking, throughout her life she catered many meals for families in Fremont and always had an open door for anyone in need of a good meal. She enjoyed gardening and was proud to receive the Fremont Area Civic Beautification Award.

Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Joyce (David) Alridge, Fremont, OH, Katrina (Laymond Morris) Dubenion, Columbus, OH; grandchildren, Jarelle Shorty, Ashley Gamble, Dion Gamble, Javier Morris and Jayla Miller; great grandchildren, Kaniah and Jayana Shorty, Carter and Zayden Morris, Amaris, Milynda and Donavyn Shorty and Jonathan Martin, Jr.; siblings, Josie Jean Williams, Ethel Cohen, Thelma Blue, Maple Rayford, Jesse Cohen and her longtime companion, Hubert Atkins.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Issac Shorty; brothers, Rufus Williams, Tommy Lee Isaac and sister, Mary Alice Stadium.

Visitation will take place on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. with funeral services to follow at 12 p.m. at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home, 425 E State St., Fremont, OH with Pastor CJ Burel officiating.

The burial will follow at Greenlawn Memory Gardens, Clyde, OH.
