Dorothy M. Atkins

Dorothy M. Atkins, 61, of Fremont, OH passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2015 at Stein Hospice in Sandusky, OH. She was born on March 2, 1953 in Flint, MI, the daughter of Clarence and Hattie (Covington) Shepard.

Dorothy married Robert Atkins on June 15, 1984 and he preceded her in death on August 16, 2012. She worked as a Seamstress at Saddleman, Inc. for many years and retired in 1996. Dorothy was a member of Ebenezer Church of God in Christ and attended New Revelations Church of God in Christ. She enjoyed sewing and spending time with her grandchildren. Dorothy was the founder of Disciples in Action Soup Kitchen, a dream of her mothers that she was proudly able to carry out.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Lamar (Amber) Atkins-Shepard of Fremont, Yolanda Atkins-Allen of Oklahoma, Lakisha Atkins of Toledo, Ebony Atkins-Willingham and Robert Y. Atkins both of Fremont; sister, Paula (Gary) Durden of Texas; bothers-in-law, Hubert (Linda) Atkins, Donald (Janet) Atkins both of Fremont, OH; thirteen grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Atkins; brothers, Clarence, Willi, Andrew and Homer Shepard; sister-in-law, Marv Shepard and niece, Carla, Shepard.

Visitation: Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St, Fremont, OH.

Service: Saturday, January 10, 2015, 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home with Elder Alfonso Vann officiating.

Burial will take place at Greenlawn Memory gardens at a later date.
