Doris Mae (Tharp) Hollis 83, passed away at Elmwood Assisted Living of Fremont, OH on December 26, 2015. She was born March 25, 1932 to Fredrick Estle and Leila (Jett) Tharp in Johnson County, Indiana. She grew up on a farm near Trafalgar, Indiana, where her values and work ethic were cultivated in an era of depression and need. She graduated from Nineveh High School in 1950 and soon after attended X-Ray school at the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, Indiana where she earned her X-Ray Technician’s License. After a first date ice skating that led to many more, she married Cecil Ray Hollis in April of 1952. Devoted to Cecil, the love of her life, they moved to St. Louis where she worked as an X-Ray tech while he attended school. Upon completion they relocated to Fremont, OH where they settled down and for the next 30 years she was a devoted wife, homemaker, and mother of four children. Her role as a homemaker allowed her to be involved with Child Evangelism Fellowship hosting Good News Clubs in her neighborhood known for the best lime Kool-Aid. She reentered the workforce holding positions in line with her passions as a cook at Vanguard Vocational School, sales associate at Jo Ann Fabrics, and then as an X-Ray Tech for the Fremont Memorial Hospital. In an effort to focus on her many hobbies including garment sewing, quilting, gardening, walking, cooking and home canning, she retired from the Fremont Memorial Hospital completing her career in Central Supply. During her life her love of fabric, flair for style and eye for design enabled her to sew a wide selection of her own clothing which encompassed her personality. A devout believer and follower of God, she was a member of Grace Community Church (Fremont Grace Brethren Church) where she played piano, sang in the choir, participated in the Women’s Missionary Circle and served as a Deaconess. She often spent time with God growing roses, vegetables, fruits and taking walks through His creation. With these same vegetables and fruits she would use the skills of her depression era upbringing to home can jams, jellies and other foods for her family pouring her love out on them and taking pride in how beautiful canned goods would look once completed. She was preceded in death by Cecil Hollis, the love of her life and husband of 58 years as well as her parents Estle and Leila Tharp, and brothers, Howard, Dr. Harold, Dr. Donald and Dr. John Tharp.
Surviving are children Linda Clark (Steve), Noble Hollis (Cathy), Norman Hollis (Kathleen), and Janelle Welker (Roy). Grandchildren Ryan Clark, Brandon Clark, Erin Mosier, Meghan Miller, Mark Hollis, Matthew Hollis, Mike Hollis, Kelly Lantz, and Candace Lantz and eleven great grandchildren.
