Dennis Leroy Root

Dennis Leroy Root, 69, of Fremont, OH passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Thursday, December 27, 2018. He was born October 14, 1949 in Fremont, the son of Clarence L. and Katherine L. (Oman) Root. He was a 1967 graduate of Fremont Ross High School and received an Associate Degree from Terra Community College.

Denny served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam war and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal; Marksman Badge (M-14) and Sharpshooter Badge (M-14).

Denny married Jo Ann Nones on August 8, 1970 in North Plainfield, NJ and she survives.

He started working for his father at Rural Serve. He then worked at many car dealerships. Denny worked at Steinle Auto in the service department and sales department for twenty-one years and retired in 2006.

Denny loved cars, golfing and The Ohio State Buckeyes. Most of all he loved his family, especially his grandchildren.

Denny is survived by his wife of forty-eight years, Jo Ann Root, Fremont, OH; children, Kimberly (Craig) Smith, Waterville, OH and Scott Root, Green Springs, OH; siblings, Marianne Myers, Green Springs, OH and Timothy (Pat) Root, Fremont, OH; grandchildren, Isaac, Anthony and Kamryn Smith and Brooklynn Root; several nieces and nephews; his dog, Bailey.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will take place on Wednesday, January 2, 2018 from 4 – 8 pm at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St, Fremont, OH.

Services will be private for the family.

Burial will take place at Four Mile House Cemetery at a later date.

Memorials can be made to Heartland Hospice or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
