Dennis A. Gerwin

Dennis “Denny” A. Gerwin, 82, of Fremont passed away Friday, August 4, 2023 at Valley View Health Campus surrounded by his family. Denny was born October 31, 1940 in Gibsonburg, OH to Dale and Edna (Jones) Gerwin. He attended Fremont Ross High School. Denny married Karen Kruse on March 16, 1963 at the Solomon Lutheran Church in Woodville and she survives.

Denny served in the United States Navy from 1959 to1963 aboard the USS Newport News CA 148 and participated in the Cuban Missile Crisis. He worked eighteen years at Peter Eckrich and as a custodian for St. John’s Lutheran Church for seventeen years until he retired in 2009. Denny was a Member of St. Johns Lutheran Church and a lifetime member of the VFW. Denny had a love for music, he played the drums for many different bands. He also enjoyed boating and fishing.

Denny is survived by his wife of 60 years, Karen Gerwin; children, Tammy (Randall) Duncan, Jill Pearson, and Kristen (Dean) Bliss all of Fremont, OH, Jackie (Bob) Bruce, Clyde, OH and Doug (Kristin) Gerwin, Port Clinton, OH; sixteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren, and ten step grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Larry (Ruth) Gerwin and Barb (Larry) Behrendsen both of Fremont.

He is preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Michael Gerwin; sister, Nancy Widman; and grandson, Brandon Adair.

The family would like to thank the staff at Valley View Health Campus for their excellent loving care.

Memorials can be made in his honor to St. John’s Lutheran Church or to the donor’s choice.

Services will be held privately for the family.
