Delmar Dean Schulz

Delmar Dean Schulz, 90, of Fremont, OH passed away on September 28, 2014 at Bethesda Care Center. He was born on September 15, 1924 in Millersburg, IA to George Elmer and Alice (Hawkins) Schulz.  He was a 1942 graduate of Millersburg High School.  He attended the University of Iowa and joined the Army Air Corps Reserves and was called to active duty in January of 1943 and served until 1948.  Del earned his wings at the age of 19 and was assigned to the 95

Air Force.  He was stationed in Horam, England completing 23 missions piloting as lead crew of the “Flying Fortress” B-17’s.  Del’s last flight was on April 25, 2012 when he flew on the Honor Flight with other WWII veterans to Washington D.C.

Del married the love of his life Beverly Anne McKinley on August 1, 1945 in Iowa City, IA and she survives.   He worked for Moore Business Forms for forty years.  He worked in Iowa City, IA for fourteen years as a supervisor.  He was promoted and transferred to Angola, IN.  He then was responsible for building the plant in Fremont, OH in 1965 and was plant manager for thirteen years.  He was then promoted to Eastern US Distribution Manager and was relocated to corporate headquarters in Glenview, IL.  He became US Distribution and Warehousing Manager until he retired in 1987.

Del and Beverly then moved to Sun City Center, FL where they spent eighteen wonderful years. They then moved back to Fremont in 2006 to be closer to their children and family. He was very active in many activities both in Fremont and Sun City Center, FL.  While in Fremont he was a member of City Council, YMCA Board, Junior Achievement, United Way Board and the Chamber of Commerce Board.  Del was proud of working with other business leaders to help secure the land for Terra Community College.  He was a member of the American Legion.  He was a member of the Fremont Rotary Club. Del was also active in Sun City Center, FL where he was the past president of Rotary and a Paul Harris Fellow.  He was a tireless volunteer for Sun City Center, FL.  Del was a faithful Episcopal Church Member and served on many positions at St. Paul’s, Fremont and, St. John the Devine, Sun City Center where he served on the Vestry and as Warden.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-nine years Beverly Schulz, Fremont; children, Marc (Patricia) Schulz, Fremont and Barbara (Mark) Kraker, Wooster, OH; grandchildren, Matthew (Carrie Gilroy) Schulz, Rochester, NY, Kelli Lee Schulz, Columbus, OH, Travis Creed (Ashley Gault) Kraker, Orlando, FL and Tyler Dean Kraker, Wooster, OH; great granddaughter, Ruby Lee Schulz; brother-in-law, Herbert Hopp; nephew, Daniel Hopp and great nephew, Thomas Scott all of Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Margy Hopp and niece, Kristen Scott.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2014; 11:00 a.m. with visitation from 10:30 until 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 206 N. Park Ave., Fremont with a gathering to follow in the parish hall.

Memorials: The family requests in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Hospice of Memorial Hospital or Fremont Rotary Club Strive Program
