Daniel J. Esker, Sr., 84, of Fremont, OH passed away on November 22, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on August 28, 1930 in Fremont, OH the son of Roman Joseph Esker and Mercedes Ziebold. He was a 1948 graduate of St. Joseph High School.
Dan served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict where he was stationed in Alaska and received the National Defense Service Medal. He married Nancy A. Sorg on March 7, 1978 at St. Joseph Catholic Church and she preceded him in death on October 10, 2001.
Dan was a carpenter and worked for various contractors over his career. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, V.F.W., American Legion and Moose. He enjoyed cross stitching, cooking, barbequing and listening to big band music. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family.
Dan is survived by children, Tad (Karen) Esker, St. Petersburg, FL, Melissa (James) Sisi, Fremont, Robert (Deb) Esker of Florida, Cheryl (Mike) Smith, John Esker and Jennifer (Jesus) Ramirez all of Fremont; siblings, Jim (Maryann), Sandusky and Mary Dee, Cleveland; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Daniel Esker, Jr. and Roman Esker.
Visitation: Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E State St., Fremont, OH.
Mass of Christian Burial: Wednesday, November 26, 2014; 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 709 Croghan St., Fremont, OH.
Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery, Fremont, OH
