Clara May Baskey, 99, of Fremont, OH passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at ProMedica Memorial Hospital in Fremont, OH. She was born April 30, 1917 in Fremont, the daughter of Marion Matthew and Ruth (Greetham) Miller. She was a 1936 graduate of Fremont Ross High School.
Clara May married Nicholas S. Baskey, Sr. on April 14, 1940 in Bucyrus, OH and he preceded her in death on November 24, 1969. She was a homemaker and a lifelong member of the East Side Presbyterian Church. Clara May served on the Sandusky County Election Board for over fifty years. She demonstrated foods at Kroger and Great Scot food stores. Clara May was also a member of the Republican Women and the United Christian Women’s Association.
Clara May’s love of family took her to Uruguay, Spain, Portugal, Turkey, Egypt, Belgium, the United Kingdom and Jerusalem where her son served as a US Foreign Service Officer. She enjoyed dancing, baking pies and playing cards.
Clara May is survived by her son, Nicholas (Jocelyn) Baskey, Jr., Sarasota, FL; grandchildren, Adrian (Jacky) Baskey, Bujumbura, Burundi, Matthew Baskey, London, England and Alistair (Shirin) Baskey, Abu Dhabi, UAE; great grandchildren, Joshua, Jared and Isabelle; caregiver and special friends Betty and Don Behlmer, Fremont, OH and many extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Nicholas S. Baskey, Sr.; brother, Clarence “Bud” Miller and sister, Bernice (Miller) Hotchkiss.
Visitation: Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St., Fremont, OH.
Service: Monday, September 5, 2016; 5:00 p.m. with one hour of visitation prior to the service at East Side Presbyterian Church, 1020 Kentucky Ave., Fremont, OH, with Pastor Tim Whalen officiating.
Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery, Fremont on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m.
